For the love of donkeys!

Hey everyone, welcome to our channel! Today we’re going to talk about the different types of donkeys.

Did you know that there are actually several different breeds of donkeys? Some of the most common breeds include the Mediterranean donkey, also known as the Maltese donkey, the Poitou donkey, and the American Mammoth Jackstock.

The Mediterranean donkey is known for its long ears and distinctive cross-shaped marking on its back.
It is a breed that originated in Malta. It was used as a beast of burden in th past and was introduced into the United States which contributed to the American mammoth breed. The Maltese Donkey was also introduced to Australia back in the mid 1800s.

The Poitou donkey, on the other hand, is known for its shaggy coat and large size. It is a French breed of donkey and one of the largest breeds. The jacks were bred to mares of the Poitevin horse. This resulted in the Poitevin mules, which were in demand worldwide for agricultural and other types of work.

The American Mammoth Jackstock is the largest of all donkey breeds, with some individuals reaching up to 16 hands (5.33 feet) high. It is a breed of North American donkey which descended from large donkeys imported to the United States back in the 1700’s. George Washington, with Henry Clay and others, bred them to be used to produce strong work mules.

Donkeys have been used for centuries for transportation, agriculture, and even as companions. So, whether you’re a farmer or just a donkey lover, there’s a breed out there for everyone.
